ENCOURAGING YOUTH

  • Pray for them
  • Pray with them
  • Always treat them with the honor and respect that you expect from them
  • Acknowledge their importance in your life
  •  Remember their birthday
  •  Ask them about their family and friends
  •  Help them develop a plan for their life and how to reach goals
  • Help them understand the value of selecting friends who share the same values and will encourage each other in wholesome activities
  • Attend their school activities (band and choir concerts, ball games, etc)
  • Ask and be willing to listen to them about their classes and school activities 
  • Offer to tutor in areas of your expertise 
  • Encourage conversation about spiritual topics
  • Remind them of God’s love for them and that He wants the best for them
  • Teach by example a love for the Lord’s church
  • Encourage questions and help them reach conclusions
  • Help them discover their core values (Values.com)
  • Help them understand the importance of good character (CharacterCounts.org)
  • Encourage them to read their Bible 
  • Create a safe environment for them (Read the book: Safe People by Cloud & Townsend)

  • Set up a youth Bible study
  • Share with them the joy you experience being a Christian
  • Encourage them to memorize Bible verses that are special to them
  • Encourage questions about life 
  • Always be ready to help them
  • Share a inspirational book with them and talk with them about it
  • Have a group of youth in your home for fellowship
  • Encourage a group of youth to help someone in need
  • Take a group of youth on a mission trip
  • Ask them to spend the day with you and do something they would enjoy
  • Teach them new scripture songs
  • Always look for the good in their life and when you find it let them know you notice by complimenting them
  • Help them find wholesome and fun activities to do with friends
  • Invite them into your home for a night of games 
  • Discover ways to show your appreciation for them 
  • Let them hear you praise them for accomplishments
  • Encourage them to read books that develop their spiritual life
  • Determine the best way to communicate with them
