ENCOURAGING THE UNFAITHFUL

  • Pray for them
  • Pray with them
  • Treat them with honor and respect
  • Stay in touch with them with calls, cards, emails, etc.
  • Build trust by being open and authentic (Read the book: Safe People by Cloud & Townsend)
  • Acknowledge the fact that discouragement can affect anyone
  • Assure them that they are missed
  • Allow them to express their opinion
  • Actively listen to them and their concerns
  • Ask questions to stimulate conversation
  • Seek first to understand and then to be understood
  • Live in a way that they see authentic Christianity
  • Share the joy that Christ brings into your life
  • Be one of their balcony people (Read the book: Balcony People by Joyce Landorf Heatherly)
  • Acknowledge their importance in your life
  • Remind them of God’s love for them
  • Ask them what you could do to encourage them
  • Let them hear you say good and positive things about others
  • Compliment them on the good you see in their life
  • Invite them into your home for fellowship
  • Attend events with them outside the worship services
  • Assure them that all have fallen and made mistakes
  • Share what the Bible teaches about forgiveness
  • Ask if they would be willing to study the Bible with you
  • Assure them they are welcome to attend worship services with you
